The Practical Packing List for a Tanzania Safari
The Minutes Tours Editorial · 1 min read · February 2, 2026
Neutral-coloured clothing (khaki, olive, stone) is genuinely functional on safari, not just aesthetic — it shows less dust and doesn't draw the attention of biting insects the way dark blue and black can.
Layers matter more than volume. Mornings on the Ngorongoro rim or in a hot air balloon basket can be near freezing; by midday you'll want short sleeves. A packable fleece and a windproof layer cover most of the range.
Most light aircraft transfers within Tanzania cap baggage at 15kg per person in soft-sided bags — hard-shell suitcases won't fit the cargo holds. Pack accordingly if your itinerary includes any fly-in connections.
Binoculars are worth packing individually rather than sharing a pair between two people — most camps can lend a spare pair, but your own means you're never waiting your turn during a sighting.
